Help! My Dog is Driving Me Crazy!

Behaviour Modification Programs

The majority of behaviour problems like jumping on guests or chewing on inappropriate items we label as problems are typically normal dog behaviours. Remember, all dogs chew but what they chew on is up to you. Jumping to greet you is normal if it gets reinforced every time we give our dogs attention; any attention (good or bad).

When treating any behaviour problem our modification programs use 4 components:

  1. Positively Reinforce Alternate Behaviours
  2. Management & Setting Your Dog up to Succeed
  3. Consequences Using Operant Conditioning
  4. Consistency

ExecuPet offers programs to address many common behaviour problems such as:

  • Jumping
  • Nipping
  • Chewing
  • Excessive Barking
  • Door Dashing
  • Housetraining
  • Fearful/Shy Behaviour
  • Begging
  • Aggression
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Counter Surfing
  • Resource Guarding
Leash Aggression Workshops
The goal of this program will allow your dog to walk around other dogs or walk up to other dogs without lunging/growling as they approach them. What this program teaches your dog is that not all dogs are available for play, not all dogs are dangerous and most importantly, focus, impulse control and the ability to relinquish the environment in favour of the handler. The training techniques used are positive reinforcement training techniques only. Using corrections on a fearful dog is counter productive and will only make the aggression worse.  This will only cause a deeper negative association to what the dog is fearful of. We do not believe in using prong collars, choke chains or shock collars.
